Great, unless you sweat

The M3i is an excellent spin bike out of the box. The features and noise level are great and the display, when properly calibrated, is useful. However, the electric and mechanical elements are situated below the rider and are not adequately protected from sweat. My M3i is used on average just over once a day and resides in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. I clean and dry it after every use. This is my second M3i, my first one lasted 6 months until the electronics shorted out and required replacement. After replacing the electronics it lasted another 12 months until the bottom bracket rusted out making the bike unrideable. I purchased a second bike and the electronics failed in less than 3 months. They were replaced but failed again 6 months later and required replacement again. Based on the rust...

Based on the rust trails on the rear disc I suspect the bottom bracket is rusting out on this bike as well and am researching alternative bikes. If this bike cost $400, I would not complain. However this is an expensive bike and should be able to tolerate once a day riding for more than 18 months even with a rider who sweats while riding- that's sort of the whole point. If you are willing to spend several thousand dollars on an exercise bike for home use, you should expect more.

Keiser responded:

Hello Dan,

Touching base, I know we discussed these issues at length; this is definitely atypical of our cycles and we see accelerated rust most frequently when the cycle is either cleaned too frequently or with cleaning products that are not approved for use with the cycle. In your case though, we will examine the rusted cycle when it returns for any particular defect. Please keep me posted on how the replacement cycle is doing!

Thank you,

Mike Douglass

Absolutely great buy

After looking at many different options, including the Peloton, we decided on the Keiser for a number of reasons, including the build and the aesthetics but also the ability to divorce the screen from the bike and use our TV paired with an Apple TV. Now we have the best bike, plus the Peloton and Zwift apps and are thankful to have this combination. The Keiser team has been incredible with their support and patience when we needed help initially, and I'm sure they will continue to support. Absolutely great buy.

Great Bike

I love this bike. Very quiet and you do not need to worry about plugging it in, (like some of the other bikes). I have set up a monitor and use the cycling apps and away I go. If you are on the fence with this bike I would highly recommend. In addition the customer service are very responsive with any questions you have.

Really high quality at a great price!

I am a spin instructor and have been on a lot of bikes -- I teach on the Keiser and love it. I decided to purchase one for home use and I am so glad I did. This is such a high quality bike. I was very close to purchasing the Peloton, but ultimately, didn't want a bike that I would always have to pay a monthly service for. I can't say enough about this bike! And, I was really nervous about putting it together but between the instructional video and the printed instructions, it was a piece of cake.

I have been very pleased with my M3i bike. At the start of the pandemic, with gyms closing, I decided to purchase an indoor bike to fill in gaps in my workout routine. My initial choice did not work out. In replacing it, I wanted to be sure I got a reliable, quality bike. The M3i has been that. I've had it now for about two months. I get quality workouts on it. The bike is quiet and stable, and the resistance can be finely controlled. The app shows data during the session and records my workouts.

The bike arrived well packed in a double box. I had no trouble assembling it.

I don't doubt that there are many other decent bikes available, many a lower price points, but I'm happy that I went for this top-of-the-line bike. I expect to be using the M3i for many years...

My M3i came with a small defect.

I took delivery of my M3i on 17 Sept, 2020. One issue I had involved a screw that I simply could not get unscrewed in order to attach the sweat cap at the top of the strut that holds the handlebar bracket. I submitted an email inquiry and still needed to call in order to get a response. Two weeks later (I'm writing on 2 Oct)there has been no followthrough. Since the issue hasn't prevented me from riding, I'm not upset just feeling slightly disappointed since the product is so good. We're all living with Covid19 so I don't want to make this a pointed criticism, just an accurate representation of my experience. And to be fair, the M3i arrived less than 2 weeks after I order it, which was simply fantastic.

If you are on the fence, I would not let the above discourage you. As long as you regard this option as affordable, get it. I was a little nervous paying a little more, but I'm very glad that I did. The unit was packaged very well and assembly is straight forward. Definitely pay attention to the advice to cover the flywheel as you place it between the magnetics. I'm very pleased with its unblemished look after assembly.

The quality of the M3i is better than I imagined. It is a rock solid piece of kit. I'm 6' 2" and 225 pounds, I can jam as fast as I can, get up out of the saddle distribute my weight dynamically all over the handlebars and the feel is absolute stability. The number one reason I selected the Keiser over other options was sound. In the regard the unit does not disappoint. My suffering is louder than the M3i, that is the best way to put it. There is no comparison to a bike trainer, the unit is so quiet that your own breathing and exertions will dwarf any noise the unit makes.

Two weeks in, I love having the ability to spin whenever I want due to the unit's silence. I wish it would have been perfect out of the box, but Keiser is sending a replacement part to a service provider who is supposed to swap it out for me. So all in all, it is difficult to whine when the unit itself is simply outstanding.
