Love the M3i

I was concerned about the Q factor, as my road bike’s is really narrow (140) and the M3i’s is pretty wide. I find the M3i’s very comfortable though, and actually it has mitigated some pain I was having in my knee from using the road bike on rollers....

And the bike is quite nice to behold. I am an artist, and I’ve spent more than a little time looking at fine design. This bike is clearly the most aesthetically pleasing spin bike design out there. This may not matter to some (and certainly other utilitarian factors, comfort, reliability, sound, etc., are perhaps more important), but it gives me pleasure.
I have been delighted every time I’ve called Keiser (as I did before I first ordered). Every time a friendly person answers on the first ring. Who has that experience these days with any company?
Packaging was excellent. Assembling the bike was simple. Good directions (I did use the folded paper around the flywheel as recommended in the manual, but does not appear in the video, thanks to one reviewer here for pointing that out).
Bottom line: I LOVE this bike. It makes working out a pleasure. I’ve done a bunch of rides, some 25 miles or more already. What a joy! I look forward to my workouts.

This bike is Wonderful! And lovely to look at too!

I used to do some serious road riding back in the day (three decades ago, I'm in my mid-60's, but in pretty good, some would say very good, condition) in the SF Bay Area, and I still have a pretty good “basis”. In the past couple of decades, living on a dirt road in the mountains, road riding isn’t much of an option. So, I have been running instead. I can do a pretty sweet, hilly, dirt road eight-mile loop right out my front door… my daily run when I am on top of it. The winters are pretty intense here, so running isn’t much of an option in the winter months. So...
So usually in the winter I go to our sweet local gym to keep up my conditioning, but that isn’t much of an option this year with Covid-19. Thus, my spin bike purchase.
I had been using my road bike (very old school, but light and fast and tight geometry) on rollers before the M3i, but it was super loud, and my wife has really sensitive hearing, so it drove her crazy. Before ordering the M3i, I did a lot of online research, read countless reviews, etc.
I am not a spin bike class person, so the idea of paying for Peloton monthly fees and such had no attraction for me (I don’t really need anyone else to motivate me). I like seeing my (pretty beautiful) nature environs when I work out, and on the treadmill in the gym, I just watch a video on the monitor of a Marin County ride (rider’s POV). I’m running, not riding, but still sweet, and I know the ride well from my past. I thought I would try some of the various training apps to see if I liked any, and if not, just view a cycling POV video like the one I watched on the gym treadmill on my phone or tablet while I spin at home.
The M3i stood out in the many reviews I read for many reasons. Beautiful design, reliable, sturdy, quiet, etc. I did want to try it out before purchasing, but I couldn’t find any nearby. I’ve since learned that a pretty hip chain of gyms up in the Burlington area uses them, but didn’t know that until mine arrived. That said, I took the plunge.
So, my impressions, the meat of my review:
First, I have been delighted every time I’ve called Keiser (as I did before I first ordered). Every time a very friendly person answers on the first ring. Who has that experience these days with any company? They are responsive, friendly, knowledgeable.
My bike actually shipped a couple of days earlier than Keiser predicted. That was nice. I did have to wait a bit for it to get here though, as we had 3 feet of fresh snow, and FedEx couldn’t make it to my house for a bit.
Unpacking the bike was a pleasure. The packaging is not just excellent, it is artful. I kid not. First impression on unboxing: these Keiser folks really take pride and care in what they do.
Assembling the bike was simple. Good directions (I did use the folded paper around the flywheel as recommended in the manual, but does not appear in the video, thanks to one reviewer here for pointing that out).
And using the bike is a total joy! First, it is so silent. I mentioned that my wife has super sensitive hearing. She has commented on how quiet it is. She says I make a lot more noise when spinning than the bike does. The fit is excellent. Some folks have commented on the comfort of the seat. The seat is wider than my road bike saddle, but certainly no harder, than the road bike’s narrow, very hard, racing saddle. The seat did take a wee bit getting used to, but that is no big deal… it’s pretty standard to have to adjust to a new seat. So sometimes I was/ am a bit sore, but that is temporary, and no big deal to me. Pretty much over that adjustment period already. I’ve found the resistance adjustment easy, the console clear, and the handlebars very comfortable.
I was concerned about the Q factor, as my road bike’s is really narrow (140) and the M3i’s is pretty wide. Actually though, I find the M3i’s very comfortable, and actually it has mitigated some pain I was having in my knee from using the road bike on rollers. That is a nice surprise.

This may not matter to some (and certainly other utilitarian factors, comfort, reliability, sound, etc., are perhaps more important), but it gives me pleasure.
So, the bottom line: I LOVE this bike. It makes working out a pleasure. I’ve done a bunch of rides, some 25 miles or more already. What a joy! I look forward to my workouts. I highly recommend the M3i!
