Great bike, but be wary of the power reading and calories burned numbers.

VERIFIED PURCHASE
Great bike, arrived in perfect condition, assembly was straightforward. Loved buying from a USA company. I have ridden Keiser M3s in the gym (minus the data) for many years, so have always been a fan. However, I am highly suspect of the power readings on the M3i. After riding Schwinns at the gym for the last couple of years, plus a sundry of other devices (treadmills, ellipticals, road running w/Garmin, etc), the Keiser seems to report about 1/3 lower power/calories than the other devices. Either they are ALL lying, or the Keiser M3i is not correct. I find it hard to believe that I can work hard for 45 mins and only burn 250 calories. I know the Keiser is ISO-certified, but after digging into the certification, it's mostly for safety, and not accuracy. I'd love to know how...

I'd love to know how Keiser calculates its power reading and subsequent calorie burn. I chatted with a Keiser tech about the discrepancy, but everything appears to check out. I'll click the "I'd recommend the M3i to a friend", because I do love the bike, but with the above caveat.

Keiser responded:

Hey Dale,

A lot of variables here, but the ISO certification is different from our power accuracy certification; we were the first company to submit a cycle for EIN 957 certification for power accuracy on an indoor cycle, and we passed handily.

Without knowing the makes and models of the other machines I can only speak to our accuracy and go a little bit into the models for calorie calculation. If you don't measure a person's weight and get some metabolic information beforehand calorie calculation will always be a bit of a very educated guess with some assumed parameters. That being said, our calorie calculation is based off of watts produced and takes a lot into consideration to make the number as accurate as possible.

Best purchase I made this year!

VERIFIED PURCHASE
I am an avid "spinner", taking at least 4-6 classes a week. Once the gym was closed due to the pandemic, I debated whether to add a spin bike to my home gym (already had elliptical, treadmill, reformer, ballet bar, weights, TRX, etc.) I took the leap and ordered the bike on March 30- it arrived 10 days later! I was able to put it together myself. I learned how to use a torque wrench ( I included the assembly and maintenance kit with my order so I had everything I needed). And,the bike adjusts easily to fit me - 4 feet, 11 in. tall! With the continued shut down, I have been using the bike almost daily. I am back to my pre-shut down cardio fitness level.

No Extra Parts...

VERIFIED PURCHASE
I assembled the M3i in 1 hour and when I was done there were "no extra parts."

I have been riding Keiser for 20 years at LA Fitness and nothing on the market comes close to the smoothness and gradual resistance and the fit and finish of the material is beyond compare.

COVID lockdown needs this

VERIFIED PURCHASE
I used this bike at my local gyms spin class and was craving some indoor fitness during this time. Assembly was extremely simple. It’s smooth and quiet—my hyper dog doesn’t even mind it. Extremely glad I made the investment

LOVE IT!

VERIFIED PURCHASE
I love this bike... I teach on an older version Keiser. With the stay-at-home order with the pandemic, I wanted to have a bike for home. I love the quality and fast delivery of the Keiser. I put the bike together in about 1 1/2 hrs. The bike is solid, smooth, and top quality. I have been so thankful to have the bike in my home. It has been the best decision!!

Rattling seat

Love the bike except for the rattling seat post! I guess a $2000 price tag doesn’t ensure a cheap plastic part/ molding that covers the inlet for the seat post.

When I’m riding the bike strenuously, the seat and post rattle back and forth, and left and right. What gives! This provides a constant annoyance and distraction.

I can’t believe that a mostly metal smooth bike wouldn’t have a rubber gasket or other shock absorbing material for the seat post inlet.

Because of the constant annoyance, I’ve resorted to shoving a thick piece of paper in between the seat post and the portal.

Also, it’d be nice if the software guided sessions, were either programmable or just a better app. Unimpressed with the lack of features. My Apple Watch is way more informative that the...

Sincerely dumbfounded and annoyed.

Keiser responded:

Hi Mollie,

In checking the service record I see we suggested tightening the seat post adjustment knob, did that correct the issue? From the video is really seemed like that would do it, the seat post adjustment system has two components: the push-pin/plunger and the friction lock.

It's worth noting the guided sessions in the app are programmable, the parameters of the guided cycling sessions in the Keiser M Series app will change if you take the FTP test again! That was our intention, you take the FTP test to benchmark yourself, then ride for a while and improve. You'll then retake the FTP test and the guided sessions will change based on your new score. If you had any specific suggestions please feel free to share them here or you can also send me an email.

Thank you!
